January 2023 Reads

It’s a new year and I have set a goal to 55 books throughout 2023. I’m not going to lie – I have gotten off to quite a slow start. Reading slumps can hit hard, and this January, my slump was DEEP. I only made it through three books, but they were all pretty good reads.

Twisted Hate by Ana Huang

4/5 Stars

This is the third book in the Twisted series, and might be my favorite so far. This book follows Josh and Jules who seem to be mortal enemies. They decide to have an “enemies with benefits” relationship with no strings attached. This book is super spicy, but I really loved the progression of the relationship. I’m dying to read book four, but my library doesn’t currently have it!

The Simplicity of Cider by Amy Reichert

3/5 Stars

I had high hopes for this book, but I was pretty let down. The story seemed super slow and I just couldn’t get into it. Single dad meets workaholic cider maker and they discover the best parts of each other. There’s a bit of family drama on both sides, but I just found it fell a bit flat. Absolutely no spice in this book – just a cute, wholesome story.

Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood

4/5 Stars

Y’all know I love a good enemies to lovers story, and this book handles it so well. Ali Hazelwood creates females characters that are rooted in STEM, and as a math person, I am obsessed with the strong female lead. Bee and Levi have to co-lead on a project, but Bee cannot stand Levi. After some time, she begins to see a softer side to Levi and he helps her overcome some hurdles in her life. This book is the perfect amount of sweet and spice. I loved The Love Hypothesis, and I’ll definitely continue reading anything she writes.
